"We gave your house to someone else."

Oh, you did Ms. Realtor? Why, thank you. That's exactly why I came to you to sign these papers, saying, that we, FORT 2.0, would be living on Allston St. Thank you very, very, much.

This all made me feel very bad, because Lucas and his roommates were depending on us to take over their lease for May-Aug31st.

We can't afford to live in that house and then move again Sept. 1st. So that kind of leaves them screwed. Which I feel HORRIBLE about. Sadly, though, we can't screw ourselves over to save them, which I wish we could in a perfect world, but we really, really, can't. Sometime tonight I'm meeting Lucas to give him his lease back, and apologize and explain everything. Also, I'm going to post a few things on Craigslist.com and whatnot to help him find someone else. Take some pictures for him, spread the word, so on and so forth. Bummer. :(

WHATEVER. So, after our appointment with the reality place, Schooney and I went on a hunt for another reality place. We went through two who just interviewed us, and left us with a "we'll call you." Well, that's awesome, because we need to look at places now, since May 1st is in two days? Yeah. Good job, Boston. BUT! We did not stop there! We checked out one more reality place, Real Estate Boston(.com, you can find them at, young one!) and this wonderful agent, Kerry Sampson (yes, I'm promoting, she is amazing) who sat us down, asked us questions and brought us straight to the computer and printed out a folder's worth of places to look at tomorrow at 5:00pm. All in Allston, all cheaper than the Allston St. one, and all of them incredibly nice places. :)

Victory, yes, I do taste your sweet nectars.

Tomorrow night we'll have a house figured out, and the day after we'll sign the contract.
AWESOME! :) :)

Also, I'm going to be an extra pair of eyes for Michelle from New England Comics over here in Allston, and she recruited me to dress up as Ms. Marvel, though, I'm going to try and change it to Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin's Tank Girl.

Anyway, forth with the art, yes?

JAMIE FUCKING HEWLETT.

Jamie Hewlett has always been one of my favorite artists of all time. He's best known for his artwork in the comic book series, Tank Girl, and as the artist for popular band Gorillaz.

Hewlett, Martin, and Phillip Bond started a fanzine, Atomtan, in Worthing, England. Later on, Hewlett and Martin were invited to work on a zine called Deadline in 1988. This is where the lovely Tank Girl was born. They started a comic strip about a girl, with a tank, who wreaked havoc and quite the impression on all of London with her kangaroo-boyfriend, Booga. I won't go super into this, because, believe me, I fucking will. The style of Hewlett can easily be picked up just by giving a quick looksie throughout one issue of Tank Girl. But I do highly recommend spending some good time examining his pictures. Wise-ass comments and obvious labels can be found all over the bloody place, and to be quite honest, it's just really fun to look at. Comic wise, you can still see Hewlett's work pop-up here and there. My good friend, Bill, got me hooked on this comic series Doom Patrol (Grant Morrison, he got me hooked to him, I'll go into it another day) and to my lovely surprise, Hewlett's work makes appearance in one of the issues. It was super fun. I loved it. I highly recommend picking up that series as well. It's demented.

ON TO GORILLAZ! Hewlett's artwork with the band, Gorillaz has a lot more action than more artists would. It could be for the fact that Gorillaz are a "cartoon-band" so his illustrations are literally, the face and members of the band. He and Damon Albarn have created the full lives, personalities, and actions of the band, and have even go as far as write a biography, create a website- which is a 24-hour monitoring of their "home" and lives, and constantly change the events and actions that the band lives.
(Gorillaz.com) The band is made up of (from right to left- HA!) Murdoc, Noodle, 2D, and Russel. I suggest picking up their biography, The Rise of the Ogre, as soon as you get the chance. It's a great coffee table book, but I was also able to read it all the way through and fully enjoy myself. The stories crafted into that book are fantastic, and you start to feel like it's all real. It's super outrageous.

Either way, I love Jamie Hewlett's attitude, sarcasm, wise-ass remarks, and just flat out insanity in his work, and even interviews. I feel like it's defiantly made me the asshole that I am today. Especially with my own work.
Maybe I'll share that garbage with you all one day.
Maybe.

Golly, this was a shitty sort of tibbit on the ol' fellow, maybe I'll get better at this jazz later on.
Next- David Palmer!
Hell yeah!

Toodles!

I'm going to the realtormentor tomorrow.

It's going to be one of those moments in my life where I have to be my scary-mother...assertive.
I realized that whenever I'm put into a business situation, I do very well.
I guess that's a good thing, but at the same time it makes me feel sort of grimy.

Bleck.

Anyway, I've found this artist that I like, but to be honest, I know I only enjoy her work because she's COMPLETELY ripping off Jamie Hewlett. And I have, as Maxwell or Alex would call "a raging boner" for Jamie Hewlett. Both for being a nutcase, and for his artwork.
I can honestly say he's one of my favorite artists ever.

Either way, this artist's name is Lora, her work is neat, even when her work looks like it's made for the sake of copying his style and work exactly. I'm not saying this to insult her work, or her, but that's just how it is.
Here's a real crappy example;
The eyes, pencil-work, details like the banana, cigarette, "Boogie Smoke", the sharp, but somewhat dirty feel, and just overall picture made me feel like it was a piece of Hewlett's work, that I just didn't see yet.

This girl here just blatantly reminds me of Tank girl. Attitude, the objects behind her, outfit, and even hair. That and the addition of her sitting on anything with wheels or an engine, not to mention that these little buggers are usually held with a positive-feeling excitement of adventure and just running around like it's a plaything. I'm not saying any of this is bad, I like them, I said that before. I'm just blown away how similar these are. When I saw them, I had to check the name twice. Haha.

Jamie Hewlett:

I realized that the pictures I was finding online weren't the ones I had in mind at all, and I don't have the ability to scan my books right now. Maybe one day I'll go back to this topic and flood all of your lovely lives with the work of Mr. Hewlett. (Next Issue?!) Either way, the style of Hewlett is no shining star of originality, but he defiantly has his own mark, attitude, and structure.

Either way, I do enjoy Lora's artwork, she has some neat pieces that aren't as heavily influenced by Hewlett, and her graffiti work is real stellar. Her use of the environment around her pieces, and where they are placed are really what make it super rad. I think I would enjoy her stuff a lot more if it felt more like hers. Maybe someday soon she'll figure out a way to stylize her work, so sure, it can still be influenced (seriously, who's work isn't?) but really look like her own style.

SO! I like her, I appreciate her work, but more so when it looks like her own.
I really love the two posted right here.
I think I've decided I'm gong to go more in-depth about Jamie Hewlett, Tank Girl, and Gorillaz next time. Either way, I get to finally talk about new (and old!) artists I've found out about. There will be some catch up on my favorites, but I'll keep it real, don't you worry.

Catch you guys on the flip side.
